Roger Federer Defend: ‘We have kids, my wife Mirka can’t come to every practice’

For Pete Sampras, his wife Bridget was very important. And for Roger Federer, his wife Mirka is the key od success too. Speaking about it, the Swiss player recently said: ‘I think every wife is important. Mine is no different.
roger federer and wife
She’s been involved to some degree as of late, but I guess more involved midway through our relationship just because she came to every practice, every match, spent breakfast, lunch, and dinner together for years. Still very intense today, but just we have kids now, and she’s seen 900 matches, I guess.

She’s okay missing one once in a while and not coming to the practices anymore. But she’s been very important in my life, not just as a tennis player but overall. I’m happy that she always thought in the best interest for me and my career and never pulled me away.

It would have been easy for her to say, Look, can we not change it up or do different. I hear stories, some guys don’t get allowed to travel maybe three, four weeks on the stretch in a row somewhere. The only request she had is we can spend as much as time as possible together, which is what I wanted anyway.

Yeah, she’s been amazing. But at the same time, I also have to be able to take decisions all by myself and, you know, do what’s best for me as a tennis player. Of course, in the back of my mind I always have family and friends and everything, but, you know, you can’t always run everything by Mirka.
Roger Federer and wife
Anyway, I take decisions in the team, but as a leader I also have to take decisions myself.’ It helped she was on the tour herself? ‘I guess so’, Federer replied. ‘But at the same time, I guess it must also be nice to have a girlfriend or wife who has nothing to do with tennis, doesn’t know everybody.

Depends how you see it. I thought it was a positive for me, because when she started traveling with me, she was injured on her heel and she couldn’t run or walk anymore at that point. She was on crutches and everything. Then she decided to come on tour with me, and I guess it was for her like‑‑ it extended her career a little bit.
Roger Federer and his wife shake
That’s why she was so excited and motivated to still be back on the tour, but with me in the supporting team more than as a player. Which was nice for her, I think

Who is Jelena Djokovic? Learn more about the wife of Novak Djokovic and more about the Djokovic family

Jelena Djokovic is the wife of Novak Djokovic and has been supporting the 20-time Grand Slam winner for a long time

Novak Djokovic is one of the top tennis players in the world and is on course to break several records in his career.

Novak Djokovic

The Serbian is now tied with Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer with 20 Grand Slams under his belt. Djokovic is also the best placed to break this record and more but there is a rock that supports him outside of the tennis court.

Meanwhile, Djokovic is regularly cheered on during most of his matches by his wife Jelena – but who is she and what do we know about her?

Who is Novak Djokovic’s wife?
Jelena Djokovic and Novak started dating back in 2005, two years after the Serbian turned pro and have been together since then.

According to sources the pair met each other at school and got engaged in 2013 and married within the next year.

A huge fan of Instagram, Jelena regularly shares photos of her loved ones and husband on her personal feed.

She is also the director of their charity, the Novak Djokovic Foundation, which aims to help children in Serbia realise their dreams by enhancing the country’s education system. Some might not know, but Jelena is also an avid blogger and shares a lot of personal stories and advice.

How many children do they have?
The couple have two children as of now. They both became parents to a baby boy named Stefan, who was born in October 2014 and three years later Djokovic confirmed that he once again.

This time it was a daughter. They welcomed the arrival of their daughter Tara in September 2017, when Jelena was visibly absent from her husband’s matches during the Wimbledon matches that were happening at the moment.

Is Jelena Djokovic always accompanying Novak to Grand Slams?
Unlike most of the other times, Jelena did not accompany her husband a couple of years back in the Australian Open as she was busy taking care of other work.

Novak Djokovic

The fact that Djokovic was missing his family was very evident in his words when he said he was looking forward to meeting his family after being separated from them for more than five weeks due to the tour.

She was also not visible during his Wimbledon campaign prior to the AO despite being in London. She was looking after their daughter Tara while their son Stefan was seen in the Centre Court with Djokovic’s parents.

It seems she is not in Australia for the 2021 Australian Open. However, Jelena was quick to show her support to her husband. Novak has been going through a tough time in Australia over his Covid-19 vaccination status. The 20-time Grand Slam had been detained in a hotel but has since been released and allowed to participate in the tournament, for now.

Roger and Mirka Federer Have His & Hers Rolex Watches

Roger and Mirka Federer were probably at home enjoying another picturesque morning in Valbella, Switzerland, boning up on their King James Bible, when they stumbled on this line in Ecclesiastes 4:9-12: “Two are better than one.” Because, earlier this week, the Federers lived the maxim when they were both spotted wearing top-notch Rolex watches. For if one Rolex fails, the other one will keep on ticking for its fellow. This is the type of attitude expected

Roger Federer

from GQ’s Most Stylish Man of the Decade. The honor isn’t earned through an inward, self-centered devotion to dressing well, but from a mindset that permeates everything around him—if Mr. Federer is wearing a great Rolex, Mrs. Federer surely needs to have one on her wrist as well. And what a week in watches it was: Jay-Z is back with another icon, and everyone else unleashed their best bling.

Apologies to Roger, but he must hold two Ls this week. The first is for falling to Novak Djokovic in the semifinals at the Australian Open. The second is about watches. Because Rog’s Day-Date II is nice and all, but pales in comparison to the watch his wife wore while watching the match from the stands. Her Rolex Daytona, with a spectrum of sapphires circling around the bezel, is aptly nicknamed the “Rainbow”—fitting not just for the obvious reason, but because every time one appears it’s a day-brightening treat. Mr. Federer is a longtime Rolex ambassador; we’d suggest the brand sign up his wife, too.

You’d be forgiven for thinking that Jay-Z had already hit Watch Bingo. He wore a reversible $2.2 million Patek Philippe, a super-modern Audemars Piguet Royal Oak, a $2.5 million completely unique Richard Mille, plus—and this one was a toughie—he used $40,000 Rolex Daytonas as invites to his gala. But last weekend at the Grammys, Jay-Z showed that his watch knowledge goes deeper than the biggest names in timepieces. He wore yet another watch with a flippable case, this time the iconic Reverso from Jaeger-LeCoultre. It was first released in 1931 and Jay is wearing the rose-gold 80th-anniversary edition—one of only 500 in the world.

In 1993, the world was introduced to a revolutionary new product. It bucked the norms of how we expected it to appear—as it had appeared for many decades—by spilling out into your cup as a completely clear liquid rather than the bubbly brown cola people were accustomed to. This product was Crystal Pepsi, and it was not long for this world. In 2020, Trevor Noah brought to Music’s Biggest Night another revolutionary new product. This new product, released in the spring of 2019, is also a twist on a classic, but we think this one has the power to stick around forever. And, for what should be obvious reasons, it only makes sense we would also call this the “Crystal Pepsi” Rolex.

Oh, and Michael Jordan, too, last seen pumping up the NBA’s game in Paris between his Charlotte Hornets and the Milwaukee Bucks. His Sky-Dweller, like the GMT, was made for exactly this type of world travel, allowing its wearer to see the time in two different places at once. Amazingly, they are all factory set, meaning it’s the work of Rolex rather than an after-market jeweler.

Leylah Fernandez explains US Open row over Emma Raducanu timeout

Leylah Fernandez says she was unaware of the rules surrounding Emma Raducanu’s dramatic medical timeout in the US Open final after arguing with an official on court.

The Canadian was beaten in straight sets 6-4 6-3 by 18-year-old sensation Raducanu on Saturday, with the Brit becoming the first qualifier ever to win a Grand Slam – and she did so without dropping a set in 10 matches across her three weeks in Flushing Meadows.

Leylah Fernandez

There was a moment of controversy though as she served for the match, scraping her knee on the court as she slid for a return with the umpire calling for a medical timeout on break point.

Fernandez, whose growing momentum and crowd support was suddenly quietened, was livid with the decision as timeouts usually only happen on changeovers and argued with both the umpire and the tournament referee.

But the rules state that if a player is bleeding then play must stop immediately so they can be treated, with Raducanu getting patched back up before saving break point and then going on to win the match.

Leylah Fernandez

Fernandez was still visibly annoyed afterwards, shaking her head at the timeout which allowed her opponent to recompose herself, though now concedes it was a reaction ‘in the heat of the moment’.

More: Tennis
Asked about the situation, the 19-year-old explained at her post-match press conference: ‘I honestly did not know what was happening with Emma.

Leylah Fernandez

‘I didn’t know how serious her fall was, so that’s why I went to see the official and ask her about it.

‘You know what, it just happened in the heat of the moment. It was just too bad that it happened in that specific moment with me, with the momentum. But it’s sports, it’s tennis. Just got to move on.’

Fernandez was gracious in defeat and full of praise for Raducanu, feeling that the ever-so-slightly younger Brit capitalised on her mistakes in what was a high-quality final at the Arthur Ashe Stadium.

She continued: ‘Emma is a very good player. She’s been playing incredibly these last few months with a lot of confidence.

leylah fernandez

‘I unfortunately today did one too many mistakes. I think Emma noticed it and she just took advantage of it. She did good. Hopefully we’ll have many more tournaments together and many more finals.’
